Digital Curation Unit (Athena R.C.) took part as concessionaire in the project “Promotion of the work of the Research Centres of the Academy of Athens on the World Wide Web”. In the context of this project, an integrated web-based service was developed and implemented, which permits the interactive display of the material from 11 Research Centres of the Academy of Athens. The primary aim of the project was the use of modern technologies of the World Wide Web in order to present in a consistent thematic way the diverse material and documentation included in 43 collections (maps, names of places, prosopographies, ethnographic material, material related to modern Greek terms and dialects, index of byzantine and meta-byzantine wall paintings, bibliographies, various editions etc.) totally amounting in approximately 500.000 pages.
Digital Curation Unit made use of the MOPSEUS digital library to offer operations of administration of metadata and semantic access (association of digital objects, definition of hierarchies etc.) while in the same time it contributed to the dynamic geographical, chronological and thematic presentation of the content provided by the Academy of Athens. Finally, MOPSEUS’ interface has incorporated operations of electronic library and education, thus permitting the user to explore the whole information of the database in a personalized way.
